For multi-pitch climbing it’s important to minimize weight. Efficient solid climbing movement one’s primary safety. My multi-pitch climbing first aid kit (pictured above) included satellite communications (both an InReach Mini and Iphone 14), materials to stop major bleeds and to splint (tourniquet, Coban wrap, gauze, athletic tape), NSAIDs, Benadryl, rubber gloves, mini CPR mask, mini lighter, whistle, compass, knife, headlamp, and an extra battery pack.

My self-rescue kit for climbing / canyoneering include tools for hauling, lowering, and knot passing (e.g., guide ATC, tech cord, locking carabiners, VT prussic cord, and a micro traction). Knowing how to use these tools is paramount.

In addition to having the above equipment, having pre-downloaded maps and a navigation app on your phone is essential (e.g., Gaia GPS).

First aid training (e.g., Wilderness First Responder) training can be useful. In the vertical world, self-rescue rope skills are critically important.
